With limited domestic air services resuming under level 3 of the national lockdown, agents have called for clarity on the documentation that will be required.
FlySafair domestic operations will resume from June 15, CemAir from June 5, and Airlink from June 8. Comair has said it is unlikely to begin flying before November and SAA And Mango have yet to make an announcement.
Kirby Gordon, executive manager and chief marketing officer of FlySafair, told Travel News: “Regulation requires that passengers have a permit to prove that they are travelling for business purposes. As we understand it – one of two types of document will work here. Either an affidavit from a magistrate or police station to say that you are travelling for work; or an alternative is a form put together in terms of the regulations in the Disaster Management Act.
He added that passengers would need ID, as they always have.
Chris Zweigenthal, chief executive of Airlines Association of Southern Africa, told Travel News: “Passengers should check the Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs regulations, dated April 29, 2020, read together with the amendment to the regulations dated May 28, 2020.” He said it was suggested that supporting documentation be carried, along with the forms listed below, or where no form is listed:
